How are the goals of Kamp Kessa accomplished? The primary guiding principle underpinning the entire Sheltered Risks System of Education is the belief that self knowledge is the only basis for true knowledge. Real self knowledge comes from making great effort, from facing uncertainty, and overcoming obstacles that we were not sure we could meet. Self reliance and self knowledge is best learned through the provision of 'well regulated' or
sheltered freedoms that give abundant opportunity to learn from experience and from natural consequences (
risks). We offer youth the opportunity to be involved in self intiated risk taking, meaningful work, grueling commitments and broad experiences.
How can I be of help? A scholarship fund in the name of Travis and Jake Loring has been established. Volunteers, tack, equipment, and camping supplies are ongoing needs.
